CB HMB-Coastside Habitat team raises $7800

For more than 30 years, Habitat for Humanity has worked to eliminate poverty housing worldwide.  Since 1993, we at Coldwell Banker Northern California have been supporting this wonderful organization.  Together we have raised more than $2.0 million and participated in the construction of 40 Habitat for Humanity homes. Last year Coldwell Banker volunteered nearly 1500 hours of “sweat equity”to Habitat for Humanity home construction projects throughout Northern California.

In August 2005 we held our very first Habitat Auction at the Bell Building in Half Moon Bay .  We invited the whole community to join us and help us reach our office goal.  The results far exceed our expectation.  We raised $12,400, more than double our contribution in 2004.  This was only possible because of the generosity of our friends, clients, families, and business partners in the community.  We thank all those who participated in that event. We had a lot of fun and felt very good having worked together.

Before we even started planning for this year’s event, we had some local businesses asking us if they could donate again. Coldwell Banker is hosting this year’s Silent & Live Auction on Wednesday September 22nd from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  Thanks to Randy and Sharon Dardenelle the event will held at their beautiful Cypress Meadows Conference Center in Moss Beach. We have many exciting items to auction off.  We hope the whole community will come and help us beat last year’s fund raising. It will be a fun evening.

Every dollar raised will go directly to Habitat for Humanity Peninsula Chapter.  Former President Jimmy Carter, long affiliated with Habitat, said recently, “Habitat has successfully removed the stigma of charity by substituting it with a sense of partnership.  The people who will live in the homes work side by side with the volunteers, so they feel very much that they are on an equal level.”  Here is how it works.  The families selected to purchase a home from Habitat qualify based on the ability to repay a no interest loan.  Partner families earn less than 50% of the median income ($86,000) in San Mateo County.  The families also invest 500 hours of their own labor-sweat equity to build their home alongside community and corporate volunteers.  Call us if you want more information on participating in building a home.
